Based on a sample of manufacturing firms surveyd by the FED, the seasonally adjusted diffusion index for prices received (share of CEOs seeing a recent increase minus share reporting a decrease) was 18.8 in September 2025, compared to 36.1 in the previous month.
Sample. There are 689 records in the monthly time series shown in the plot above. The time period covered by the series is from May 1968 to September 2025.
History. Here's a snapshot of some simple statistics we computed on the entire sample: the diffusion index hit a maximum of 63.8 in February 1974; it reached a minimum of -40.9 in April 2009; it had a mean value of 12.0.
