Sample. In the montly time series displayed in the figure, there are a total of 291 records. The series covers the time period going from July 2001 to September 2025.
History. Here's a snapshot of some descriptive statistics calculated on the entire sample: the diffusion index had an average value of 9.5; it hit a trough of -27.3 in May 2009; it peaked at 56.1 in March 2022.
